Simple Machines and Wordpress Integration
I’m using Simple Machines for the forum community on MyTechTool.com. The problem is, I’m running the main blog on Word Press, and the two aren’t naturally compatible. Thankfully, Simple Machines uses a PHP structure (which vBulletin — the system I was using — does not).
I’ll shorten the story. There are several WP plugins that claim to bridge SMF and WP. So far none of them work. Here are the two I’ve tried:
1. WordPress to SMF. I’m not even sure what this claims to be able to do. I think it wants to migrate posts from WP to a forum on SMF. If that’s the case, I have no idea how it’s supposed to work (and it doesn’t). Tonight, however, I tried to modify a post from a few days ago, and I got an evil, hateful error message. I immedately disabled WP to SMF, and everything was fine. And that was all I needed to know. It’s going back to plugin land now, for I no longer want it on my computer.
2. SMF Bridge. I really have no idea what the fuck this is supposed to do. It’s even written in German. Which makes no sense to me. Didn’t they kill a shitload of people in WWII? That didn’t work out so well for anybody, right? Well, neither does this plugin. Dear people who wrote SMF Bridge: stop designing plugins.
